Learn to identify and describe the sequence of events in a story using beginning, middle, and end.

What Is It About? - Main Idea Introduction
Learn to identify the main idea - what a text is mostly about.
Objective: Students will identify what a text is mostly about (main idea) by distinguishing the main idea from supporting details.45 minutes - 5
Supporting Details - Details That Explain the Main Idea
Learn to identify supporting details that explain and support the main idea.
Objective: Students will identify 2-3 supporting details that explain and support the main idea, distinguishing relevant details from unrelated information.45 minutes - 6
Retelling Stories - Summarizing in Your Own Words
Learn to retell stories including characters, setting, and major events in sequence.
Objective: Students will retell a story in their own words, including the characters, setting, and major events in order (beginning, middle, end), using the Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then framework.45 minutes - 7
Making Connections - Text to Self Connections
Learn to connect events and characters in text to personal experiences to deepen understanding.

Review and Application - Comprehension Practice
Apply all RC-1 comprehension skills to new texts through mixed practice, student choice of strategies, and checkpoint preparation.
Objective: Students will demonstrate mastery of all RC-1 comprehension skills by applying them to varied texts, choosing appropriate strategies independently, and preparing for the level checkpoint.45 minutes
